Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I’ve taken on-line courses before. Are your on-line courses similar to others?

A. Our courses are much more than traditinal on-line courses. Many courses use an engaging form of instruction that includes rich media and are supported by actual accredited teachers. We offer a learning experience which many leading experts in the field of education believe is superior to that of the conventional classroom and is much more productive than the typical on-line courses you may find with more traditional education-only web sites.

Q. Are your teachers accredited?

A. Yes. All Everest EOLC teachers have appropriate ministry-approved academic accreditation and relevant teaching experience. Their passion for teaching and openness to innovative educational technologies has brought them to partner with Everest. Many are also actively teaching today in an Everest Academy school and therefore are very up-to-date with their materials and ability to respond to on-line student needs.

Q. Who determines your curriculum for accredited courses?

A. The relevant governing bodies in each region determine the curriculum accredited courses must follow. For example, in Canada, the Ministry of Education issue curricula at the provincial level and sets graduation requirements. Our expert team in curriculum design ensures that our courses meet or exceed the Ministry’s guidelines.

Q. How do I sign up for a course with Everest EOLC?

A. You start by registering on-line at Everest EOLC. If needed, you can also contact an Everest Academy representative directly to discuss your needs in more detail at 905.881.3335. It’s that simple.

Q. Are online courses easier than regular courses?

A. On-line courses are not meant to be easier from an academic standard perspective, but most users find that on-line courses make the learning experience more engaging through increased interaction and greater flexibility, which can create the perception of being easier. For example, you can often repeat a class section as many times as needed to advance. Everest On-Line students find their intellectual curiosity increasing which is a key component to achieve deep and durable learning. On-line courses can be more challenging and engaging, and Everest On-Line students are encouraged to learn at their own pace and follow a learning schedule that suits their lifestyle and activity schedule..

Q. Isn’t there less interaction with online courses?

A. Not in all cases. That's one of the primary myths about on-line courses. In fact, there can be greater overall interaction than what is possible in a conventional classroom given that time and location obstacles are removed. Student-teacher and student-student interaction is facilitated through various interaction tools provided with in on-line learning platform. Everest EOLC also provides certain collaboration opportunities for Parents to become involved as well. Greater collaboration, instruction, connection and communication can be achieved through the Everest EOLC platform. As a whole, technology has brought us greater interaction, not less. Today we communicate with a larger supportive network than ever before.

Q. Do students who take your courses feel isolated?

A. Students often feel more engaged and part of a greater community. There can be more interaction both online and offline with our courses, as students form workgroups and collaborate on-line and off-line on projects. Additionally, unlike many other on-line learning programs, students can also use an Everest Academy school or an Everest Academy partner school as a base for their classes. That provides opportunities to meet face to face with other students and teachers. In many cases, this is an encouraged element of full-time accredited courses.

Q. Can you effectively teach online?

A. Absolutely! In fact, many experts believe that on-line can provide a superior learning environment than the traditional classroom. Customization according to learning styles and needs, high interaction, and increased intellectual curiosity all contribute to deep and durable learning, which can be better delivered through the technology available both now and in the future.

Q. Isn’t it easier to cheat in an online course?

A. Cheating is always possible for determined students just as it is in conventional classrooms. However, we utilize technology to deter and detect cheating as much as we can. Our teachers also play a big part in getting to know the students and following their work and progression. Increased interaction with our students decreases the likelihood of cheating.
